REBECCA ...

International Festival for Musical Performing Arts "Life Is Beautiful!"

In november 2011 we were invited in Bucharest as official photographers for the 4th edition of the International Festival for Musical Performing Arts "Life Is Beautiful!". Here you can check out our article and photo series about Bucharest and here our best shots from the festival.

We enjoyed all the shows, but Rebecca was definitely our favorite. The musical is based on the novel with the same name written by Daphne du Maurier in 1938. Basically, is it a love story. But after you have seen the show, you realize it is so much more. It's an explosion of emotions at the highest level. The performance of the artists and the whole ambience of the play is addictive. Long after seeing Rebecca you still have the plot in your mind and the music haunts you. It is a tragic story, but with a good ending that makes your heart beat a lot faster at the end of the show and makes you clap you hands as hard as possible to show you gratitude to the great team that puts everything on stage.

It was the first show that we've seen in the festival, and we went home with a huge desire of seeing more the upcoming days. More great shows followed, but we kept having the feeling that Rebecca was more intense!

But the story behind Rebecca doesn't end here. For Florin Budnaru, one of the leading artists in the musical, in which he performs with an incredible intensity, the story in Rebecca reflects his own life story. This makes his impeccable performance even greater, sometimes not an easy task, as it has a lot of personal emotional charge. W

Apart from theatre, Rebecca has been adapted for cinema several times. The most notable of these was the Academy Award winning 1940 version "Rebecca" directed by one of our all time favorites, Alfred Hitchcock. The movie is also a masterpiece, nowadays considered a classic. It is one of the movies to add on your list!
